The research is based on a deep analysis of the BikeSharing phenomenon in China and around the world.

The bicycles provided have a high maintenance cost which involves a large request of spare parts. The associated cost brings to this service an unsustainable aspect which is in contrast with the original aim of the bike-sharing system: the sustainability.

The dispute over how to reduce these costs and make this service more sustainable was the starting point of this project.

The aim of this project is to design an airless wheel tyre for bicycles which makes the user driving experience unique, comfortable to ride, easy to fix and an esthetic high quality.


Usually, it is thought that the tyre of a bike is made of rubber. This is understandable since rubber is the material which can be seen. But this is a simplification since bicycle tyres are a combination of rubber and air. This combination can bring numerous problems typically, air escaping from the tyres. A flat tyre is a problem known to every cyclist. Based on this problematic Offair has been created.



The elastic spokes also integrate the function of the suspension to make the ride pleasantly soft for the user. Offair will be a new experience of cycling in the city. The unique aesthetics give a striking new appearance to the onlookers. The tyres visually take the center stage. The perception of the bicycle change as the focal point moves from the frame on the tyres.


Offair is an airless bicycle tyre which reduces the magnitude of the cost associated with the problem. Its elastic spokes, which are individually replaceable, are the sustainable development of this Design. If one is broken, the whole tyre does not need to be changed but only one single spoke.

The market target of this design is the short distance cyclists. Because of its elastic properties, Offair tyres are not appropriate for high speed journey. Offair is ideal for a bike sharing. A swift short journey within urban use of this design is exemplary, because of the easiness of fixing it.
